Ranchi, Nov 08: CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan today termed the Tamil Nadu Assembly decision awarding 15 days simple imprisonment to six journalists as "unprecedented" and "attack on the freedom of the press". "The sentencing of the Hindu's editor, executive editor, publisher, chief of bureau and special correspondent and the editor-publisher of DMK's Tamil mouthpiece 'Murasoli' is a serious attack on the freedom of the press," Bardhan told a press conference here.

Stating that it was an attempt to curb the press from carrying out its legitimate functioning, he said, the action was repressive. "We also know how the Tamil Nadu government put political leaders in prison under Pota and threaten to use Pota ..... Democracy is in great danger, all of us must raise our protest against it," he said.
