New Delhi, May 24: With inter-state water disputes still unresolved, the Centre today said it would adopt a national outlook regarding water sharing among states and not get "swayed by sectarian or partisan approach". Addressing senior officials while assuming charge, water resources minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said every effort would be made to mitigate the sufferings of the farmers living in the drought-prone areas,
"Irrigation facilities should reach every nook and corner of the country," he said.
Observing that there was an urgent need for creation of additional irrigation potential, the minister said special efforts would be made to resolve the problems generated by frequent floods and drought.
He also expressed concern over the poor quality of ground water in several parts of the country and emphasised the need to work in close coordination with the environment and forests ministry on this issue.
