Mumbai, Aug 14: A red alert has been sounded in Maharashtra ahead of the Independence day celebrations with the police conducting massive combing operations and carrying out preventive arrests and security checks at all entry and exit points in the state.
"A red alert has been sounded in the state," a senior official at the office of directorate general of police told here today.
"Major precautionary measures have been taken all over the state in view of the recent blasts in the city. All the police over the state have been asked to step up security and carry out necessary security checks to foil any sabotage or other plans", he said.
Tight police arrangements have also been made according to the sensitive nature of a place and threat perceptions in the area, the official said.
"The police have been directed to deploy personnel at local level as per the requirement," he said.

In Mumbai, over 25,000 police personnel would be deployed all over the city.

"We have also identified sensitive areas and divided them into two categories, sensitive from the point of security and sensitive from the communal point," joint commissioner (law and order) told today.

"We have continued with our combing operations and have also made several preventive arrest", he said.

Security at all vital installations, including airport and ports.
