Monza, Sept 07: Bridgestone Motorsport’s Hisao Suganuma has emerged from three and a half days of intensive tyre testing today in a positive and upbeat frame of mind.
All five Bridgestone equipped teams: Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, Sauber Petronas, Jordan Ford, Lucky Strike BAR Honda and European Minardi Cosworth, tested this week at the ultra high speed 5.793km Monza circuit, covering no fewer than 1,798 laps.
Consequently running a total of 10,415.8kms between them, Bridgestone’s teams were able to provide the tyre manufacturer’s engineers with copious amounts of valuable data on the tyre specifications that Bridgestone had taken to the test. Approximately 20 specifications comprising of 2,000 tyres were sent to Monza by Bridgestone.
Bridgestone Motorsport’s Technical Manager Hisao Suganuma commented this afternoon: “I am very pleased with the way testing has gone this week. It was good to get back out there after the test ban – especially with three crucial rounds to go. It has been an extremely busy few days but all our teams have worked hard and got through their tyre programmes with some very positive feedback coming from each of them.”
“We had a number of new specifications under evaluation this week and over the course of the three and a half days we are confident we have found several new compounds and constructions which will be extremely competitive," added Suganuma.

"You can expect to see some of these introduced at Monza next week as we strive to provide our teams with the best tyres for the Italian Grand Prix. And, as our Head of Motorsport Tyre Development Mr Hamashima mentioned yesterday, we have also been using this test for the benefit of our long term development programme, evaluating a new future concept construction which, although we won’t see it introduced just yet, is looking very promising and will take us forward into a new area of competitive F1 tyre construction. Overall, it has been an extremely productive few days and all this information will now go back to our Technical Centre in Tokyo for further processing. I am very much looking forward to the Italian GP now.”
