Aligarh, Aug 06: Legal experts at the Aligarh Muslim University have cautioned against any hasty move for implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country. Delivering a lecture on 'Uniform Civil Code: Legality, Reality and Legitimacy', Prof Mohammad Shabbir, a senior member of the faculty of law at AMU, said that Dr B R Ambedkar, while addressing the constituent assembly, had said, "Due to wide diversities based on welfare, custom and religion, any move to impose a Uniform Civil Code would lead to unnecessary social tension". The absence of a UCC in no way weakens the concept of national integration in any country, he said adding in the USA, different states have different sets of personal laws and this has never come in the way of weakening national integration in the world's most powerful country.
