Kolkata, Apr 17: Happiness brimmed over at Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly's residence in Behala here with his proud parents and wife Dona flooded by congratulatory calls and messages from all parts of the country and even abroad following the national team's historic Test series win over Pakistan. A large number of cricket fans, deliriously celebrating the victory, poured into the Biren Roy road soon after the match got over. The police had to rush in reinforcements to control the surging crowd.
"Any father would feel proud with a son like this. History was made today. Yes, I feel very proud both as an Indian as also as Sourav's father," Chandi Ganguly told.
All members of the family sat glued to the television since morning and savoured every moment of the Indian team's march to the victory. The match and the customary press conferences and interviews over, Ganguly called up from Rawalpindi to share the joy with his family.
"He calls us every day. And yesterday he asked us whether we had watched the match," the senior Ganguly said.
"I have never seen an Indian team play as good as this one. It is not dependent on any particular player. It's the full team that delivers," he said.
The entire family was looking forward to Ganguly's return to the city today. "We have not chalked out any celebration plans. Generally, we don't have formal celebrations. But we are now waiting for him to come back today," Ganguly senior, the trustee board chairman and former joint secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, said.
