New Delhi, Oct 02: President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today led the nation in paying tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 134th birth anniversary. Kalam, Shekhawat and Vajpayee visited the Mahatma's Samadhi at Rajghat here this morning to offer floral tributes to the apostle of peace.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Manmohan Singh were among others to pay floral tributes at Rajghat.
An all-religion prayer was held at the memorial to convey the message of peace and communal harmony.
Kalam, Shekhawat, Advani and Singh stayed at Rajghat for some time while Vajpayee and Gandhi left immediately after offering flowers at the Samadhi.
Kalam, known as 'People's President', interestingly sat among the singers of prayers as a group of school children waved at him and got a response. Bureau Report
