Congress forges alliance with HPC for Mizoram polls
Aizawl, Nov 03: In a sudden turn of events, Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee has forged a pre-poll alliance with the newly-registered Hmar People`s Convention (HPC) party for the coming assembly polls.
Aizawl, Nov 03: In a sudden turn of events, Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee has forged a pre-poll alliance with the newly-registered Hmar People's Convention (HPC) party for the coming assembly polls.
As per the agreement signed between the two parties, HPC would contest two out of three constituencies where Hmar community is concentrated while one constituency goes to the state PCC.
However, angered by his party's decision, P Vanlalvuana who had been asked to withdraw his nomination from Ratu to make way for the HPC candidate said he was leaving the party and would contest as an independent from the same constituency if party workers agreed.
Ngurdingliana, the candidate from Ssangpuilawn told newsmen he was shocked by the announcement but said, "I will abide by the decision of the high command".
The HPC would field candidates from Ssangpuilawn and Ratu while the lone woman Congress candidate Zothankimi would be supported by HPC in the Mizoram-Assam Border Bilkhawthlir constituency.
The agreement between the congress and the HPC was signed by John Lalsamgzuala, treasurer MPCC on behalf of the Congress Party and Lalrosiem, Malsawma Darngawn and Thansung, leaders of the three factions of the HPC on behalf of the HPC.
