Amritsar, Nov 03: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) caught two persons, including a woman, for allegedly mixing poisonous substances in the food being prepared in the community kitchen (langar) of the historic golden temple here last night, police said today. The food from the community kitchen is served to thousands of devotees who throng the shrine everyday.
SGPC spokespersons here said that members of SGPC task force apprehended Santosh Rani and Balwant Singh when they were allegedly mixing the poisonous substance in the food being prepared in the community kitchen of the temple and laboratory test later established that the entire vegetable which was under process was found ‘full of toxic’.
Police arrested the duo and interrogated them.
Following the incident, security has been beefed up around the community kitchen.
