Six Pakistani men were arrested on suspicion of trying to ignite Nigeria's volatile inter-religious tensions, news reports said Saturday. The six, described by Lagos' ‘This Day’ newspaper as Islamic fundamentalists, were arrested on Thursday evening in the city of Shagamu, about 75 kilometers north of the commercial of Lagos, where they had been apparently giving religious speeches by megaphone during prayers marking the beginning of the annual Muslim festival, Ramadan.

A Nigerian man who was described himself as the Pakistanis' host was also arrested, ‘This Day’ reported.
Adeniyi Sonariwo, the city's traditional Yoruba chieftain, said the Pakistanis' speeches had been considered by "Muslims in the locality...(to be) strange and inimical to the Islamic doctrines they believe in." Details of the speeches weren't available.
Local Muslim leaders had approved the arrests, expressing fears that the detainees "pose a threat to the peace of Shagamu," ‘This Day’ reported without elaborating. Bureau Report
