The opposition in Jharkand has demanded the immediate dismissal of governor Prabhat Kumar for his alleged nexus with an accused in an excise scam. Leader of the opposition Stephen Marandi said on Tuesday that a letter had been sent to President K R Narayanan and a copy was also sent to the assembly speaker, seeking dismissal of the governor.
The opposition has demanded the president's intervention to uphold the dignity of the constitutional post of the governor, he said adding that the speaker has been asked to request the President, on behalf of the house, to dismiss the governor.
He said the continuation of Kumar as governor might force the opposition to stall assembly proceedings. Marandi said the opposition parties were meeting on Tuesday to discuss coordination on the assembly floor on issues including the arrest of Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav, relief to drought-hit Santhal Pargana and extension of the winter session of the assembly, which begins on Wednesday.
