Zurich, Apr 15: Fifa has rejected Roberto Carlo's appeal against a provisional ban imposed on him following a push on the referee in Brazil's recent friendly against Portugal. The Real Madrid left-back was shown the red card after an altercation with referee Alon Yefet during the match on 28 March, and still risks a ban from all football should Fifa judge the incident sufficiently serious.
Fifa's disciplinary committee chairman Marcel Mathier turned down Carlos' appeal after viewing video evidence of the incident and the referee's report.
"The player's appeal has been rejected," Fifa said in a statement, adding that "there is sufficient evidence to support the provisional suspension, and that the regulations have been applied correctly."
A final decision on Carlos' punishment will be made on 9 May when Fifa's disciplinary committee next meet in Zurich.
Fifa banned Portuguese midfielder Joao Pinto from all matches for four months in June 2002 after he was found guilty of punching referee Angel Sanchez in a World Cup match against South Korea.
