The Countess of Wessex is recovering very well after losing her first baby in an ectopic pregnancy, her husband, Prince Edward, has said. Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II, made the comment in response to a question as he arrived for a performance at the Royal Opera house in central London. Edward had been scheduled to attend the National Youth Music Theater performance of ‘The dreaming - a musical version of Shakespeare`s A Midsummer Night`s Dream’ – with his wife, Sophie. But the 36-year-old countess underwent emergency surgery Dec 6 after doctors diagnosed an ectopic, or tubal, pregnancy, a potentially dangerous condition where the fetus develops outside the uterus.

It was not known long Sophie had been pregnant and Buckingham Palace released no details of the surgery. Sophie left hospital on Dec 10 and is expected to spend several weeks convalescing. Bureau Report
