New Delhi, Oct 23: Seven years after the gruesome murder of a law student Priyadarshini Mattoo, a city court has discharged her alleged murderer Santosh Kumar Singh in a related case wherein he was charged with outraging her modesty in the law faculty premises two months before she was killed. Observing that Matto herself could not be examined to substantiate the charges levelled against Singh, son of a senior IPS officer, as she was no more, additional sessions judge Deepak Jagotra said "by asking the accused to stand trial in such a situation would be too much to ask where the inevitable acquittal is on the cards. "In the present situation, the allegations cannot be substantiated at trial... In the case at hand, it is not possible for the prosecution to bring forth evidence so that conviction can be made on that basis," the court said. Mattoo had lodged a complaint at the Maurice Nagar Police Station on November 6, 1995 alleging that Singh had forcibly caught hold of her arm in the college premises. Bureau Report
