Gaza, Oct 19: Israeli forces killed a senior member of the Hamas group, another militant and a woman bystander in fighting at a Palestinian refugee camp in the today, medics said. Witnesses said troops shot dead Tareq Abu al-Hussain, a local leader of Hamas` military wing, in the fighting at Brazil refugee camp, which began after Palestinian militants attacked soldiers who entered the camp three days ago.
militant was killed in the shooting and a woman was killed by shrapnel from a tank shell after emerging from her house, witnesses said. Medics said about 10 other people were wounded.
The Israeli army did not immediately comment. It says it has been carrying out operations in southern Gaza for the past week to hunt for tunnels its says are used to smuggle in weapons from Egypt.
The shooting followed a rise in tensions in Gaza since a bomb attack on a US diplomatic convoy on Wednesday in which three American security guards were killed.
No group has taken responsibility for the attack on the US Convoy. A Federal Bureau of Investigation team and a Palestinian committee are investigating the bombing.
