Islamabad, Nov 10: Asif Ali Zardari, jailed husband of Pakistan People's Party (Parliamentarians) chairperson Benazir Bhutto, has denied any deal with the government but contended that any quid pro quo would be only in lieu of the post of prime minister. Zardari, who has been under arrest for the past six years on corruption charges, was flown from Islamabad to Karachi to visit his mother who is said to be critical, the nation reported today.
Sources close to Zardari said the government permission for the visit could be seen as a thaw towards the Pakistan People's Party (Parliamentarians) leader.
A source close to Zardari quoted him as saying, ''I am not mad to strike a deal with government after remaining in jail for more than six years.''
Zardari also said such news items were meant to ''divide and rule'' in order to create cracks within the party, the source said.
