New Delhi, Dec 09: The government today told Lok Sabha that during his meeting with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Central Vigilance Commissioner P Shankar at no point mentioned any names or made any allegation in respect of any Central minister. In a written reply, Minister of State for Home and Personnel Harin Pathak said at the October 16 meeting, the CVC dwelt upon the need to remove the "misplaced fear" of vigilance in the minds of senior public sector executives which often leads to hesitation on their part in reaching decisions.
The CVC delineated various measures which could be taken to build both autonomy and accountability in the functioning of the PSUs, Pathak said.
The CVC also gave a briefing in respect of various initiatives of the commission during the past one year, he said.
Pathak denied that the Public Enterprises Selection Board Chairman had written to government with regard to misuse of some PSUs by ministries concerned as reported.
There is an in-built vigilance mechanism in each ministry and department and PSUs to check misuse of authority, he said, adding vigilance set ups are headed by chief vigilance officers appointed in consultation with CVC.
