Seven militants, including a self-styled battalion commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Kashmir since on Sunday night, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The Hizbul commander, Ghulam Mohammad Ganie, was killed in an encounter with a joint search party of Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police at Hatipora in Rafiabad belt in Baramulla district of north Kashmir during the wee hours on Monday, the spokesman said.
He said the Army and the SOG raided the hideout of Ganie and asked him to surrender. However, he opened fire and in the ensuing gunbattle he was shot dead. An AK rifle, four magazines, 86 rounds, two grenades and a wireless set were recovered from him.
Two more militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen, Bashir Ahmad Khan and Abdul Rashid, were killed in a gunfight which broke out during search operations by the security forces at Gopalpora near Mattan in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Sunday night, the spokesman said, adding that an AK rifle, a wireless set, two grenades and some ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants. Another militant was killed by security forces during an operation at Nelow-Tangapora in Kulgam area of Anantnag district on Sunday, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said two unidentified militants were killed by an ambush party of the Army at village Batapora near Shopian in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Sunday. An AK assault rifle, a pistol, three magazines, one under-barrel grenade launcher were recovered from the slain militants. Immediately after the incident, a joint search party of Army, BSF and police raided Kundlan and Ratnipora areas of Shopian and asked the hiding militants to surrender.
