Nine militants, including five belonging to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad, were killed in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours.
An official spokesman said militants attacked a patrol party of the Army and special operation group at village Khudi Warnow Lolab in the frontier district of Kupwara early on Wednesday.
Security forces retaliated and killed Jaish militants -- Abu Khalid, Abu Nasir, Abu Talha, Abu Majid and Abu Sufian -- in the hour-long clash.
The forces did not suffer any casualty, he said and added that three AK rifles, 13 magazines, 140 rounds, two wireless sets and two pistols were recovered from the slain militants.
