Chandigarh, Dec 04: Appealing the Supreme Court to
transfer the cases against former chief minister Prakash Singh
Badal and his family members out Punjab, the Shiromani Akali
Dal (Sad) and it's ally BJP today alleged that there was "no
rule of law, no democracy and no regard for human rights" in
the state.
"SAD and it's leadership, especially Badal has been made
the target of planned and systematic vendetta and vilification
campaign by the Congress government headed by Amarinder
Singh," SGPC chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra told reporters here
after a meeting of party legislators, office bearers and
former MLAs.
Badal and his son Sukhbir are under judicial custody till December 13 in the disproportionate assets case. Both are lodged in the Patiala Central Jail at present.
"After booking Badal and his son in a false and fabricated case, the Chief Minister is subjecting them to a inhuman treatment in the judicial custody," Tohra, who was flanked by Punjab BJP chief Avinash Rai Khanna and several top Akali and BJP leaders, including Kanwaljit Singh, Balwinder Bhundar and Balramji Dass Tandon, said.
The SAD has appealed to the supreme court, through a letter, to transfer the trial of cases against Badals outside Punjab.
