Allahbad, May 22: In a setback to the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court quashed the notification abolishing the nine districts and four commissariats created by the previous Mayawati government. The notification regarding the abolishment was issued by the Yadav government on January 13, this year. Claiming that she had created the new districts to ensure their development and resolve people's problems, Mayawati said by restoring the districts and commissariats, the Court had "vindicated" her stand. She alleged that the Yadav government's decision to abolish the districts was taken due to "political vendetta" and to "please some industrialists." She wondered that if the state government's decision was based on "economic criterion", why the districts of Baghpat, represented by Yadav's ally RLD leader Ajit Singh, Kannauj, the constituency of Yadav's son and Chitrakoot, a Hindu pilgrim town, were not abolished "though they were also created by my government." "I wanted the government and the farmers to benefit and not the industrialists," she said, adding her party was one of the petitioners who had challenged the government order abolishing the districts.
