Mumbai, June 14: Actor Virendra Razdaan died of stomach cancer in a suburban hospital here, family sources said today. He was 53. Razdaan, who passed away yesterday, was undergoing treatment for stomach cancer since last one month, the sources said.

Razdaan, son of a Sufi musician, played the role of vidur in the famous teleserial "Mahabharat" and as Maulana Azad in the English film "Gandhi". He had his training under Ibrahim Alkaji of the National School of Drama.
He had also acted in B R Chopra's "Kal ki Awaz" and teleserials "Junoon" and "Aurat".

In the teleserial, "Jab apna huye paraye", he had performed a central role of an industrialist, according to the serial producer Vijay Singh.
Razdaan began his career as a theatre artist at the age of 12 and by the age of 16 he had earned recognition, Singh said.

He is survived by his wife Usha and two sons Harsh and Bani.
