Mumbai, Dec 04: Sky watchers will have a feast this month in the form of bright Geminids and Ursid meteor showers which could be observed from both the hemispheres.
The annual Geminid meteor shower, that would peak on the night of December 13/14, is considered one of the better showers since as many as 100 meteors per hour may be seen, Nehru Planetarium said in a release here.
Geminid meteors appear to radiate from the point (called radiant) within the constellation Gemini and the radiant is located in the northern portion of that constellation near Gemini`s two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux, which can be seen from anywhere in the sky around 10 pm local time and beyond midnight, it said.
The meteors tend to move moderately fast and are possibly the most reliable of the annual showers, it added.
The Ursids would peak on December 22 and have a peak hourly rate of 10 to 12 or a meteor every five and six minutes on average, release said.
