Special group set up to review security force strategy in J&K
New Delhi, Mar 31: A special group is being constituted to review the existing macro-strategies of the security forces and intelligence agencies in Jammu and Kashmir, thus reviewing the strategy drawn up by a similar group in 1998.

New Delhi, Mar 31: A special group is being constituted to review the existing macro-strategies of the security forces and intelligence agencies in Jammu and Kashmir, thus reviewing the strategy drawn up by a similar group in 1998.
This was decided at a high-level meeting presided over by deputy prime minister L K Advani and attended among others by defence minister George Fernandes, external affairs minister Jaswant Singh, J&K goernor Girish Saxena and chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
The special group, which will submit its report within three months, is to suggest appropriate strategies to be followed to counter terrorism in the state during the coming few months. Home secretary N Gopalaswamy told a news conference after a marathon meeting that lasted more than two and half hours that the group will be chaired by the special secretary for J&K affairs in the home ministry and would have representation from the intelligence bureau, the border security force, the Central Reserve Police Force, the army, and the state police, and the chief secretary of J&K. The group will hold detailed discussions with concerned agencies in J&K and in the Centre and also visit the state before finalising its report.
He said in answer to a question that the Special Operations Group in the state had not been disbanded but had been merged with other agencies. He said it continued to function in the `same way as before`.
