New Delhi, July 10: A witness in the Nitish Katara murder case today told a city court that police had recorded the statement of Katara's friend Gaurav Gupta at his Lucknow residence in presence of his father, who was a retired high court judge. Sub Inspector J K Gangwar was answering queries by Additional Sessions Judge S N Dhingra, who sought to know where police had recorded Gupta's statement. His father was also present when the statement was recorded, Gangwar, who had been associated with the probe into the murder case involving Rajya Sabha MP D P Yadav's son and nephew Vikas and Vishal Yadav, said.
This was in sharp contrast to prosecution claims that Katara could not be contacted after he went missing from the party, from where he was allegedly kidnapped by the Yadav duo.
Gangwar, also deposed about the recovery of Katara's watch and the hammer which was allegedly used to murder him.
While the hammer was recovered at the instance of Vikas, the watch was pointed out by Vishal, he said.
The police team had also recovered the Tata Safari, which allegedly was used to kidnap Katara, from a thread making factory in Karnal, Gangwar claimed.
