Srinagar, Sept 26: The Ruling National Conference today suffered a major jolt ahead of the third phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir when senior leader Ghulam Rasool Kochak resigned from the party alleging "it has betrayed the people".
A close associate of NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Koachak said that he would float a new outfit, Mahaz National Conference, to work for the peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.
Kochak, who underwent 10 years imprisonment along with Sheikh in 50s, said "NC has failed to come up to the expectations of the people and have failed miserably. It has betrayed the people."
"My heart is weeping to leave a party which I served for six years. Due to its wrong policies and programmes, people have distanced themselves from the party," he said.
