Srinagar, May 11: Nearly 22 lakh work days were generated in the last financial year in the Kashmir valley with the completion of 9544 rural works at a cost of Rs 57 crore. A high level meeting, presided by Jammu and Kashmir rural development minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed yesterday, was told that under different schemes Rs 2.82 crore had been provided as subsidy to various beneficiaries.
Over 8200 persons had been covered under Swarozgar Yojna and 628 self help groups had been formed during the period.
Addressing the meeting, the minister said government was determined to strengthen the panchayat institutions, which will play an important role in implementation and monitoring of development process at grass root level in the state.
Sayeed said the rural development department has a vital role to play in uplifting the economic state of rural and down trodden people and exhorted the officers to ensure transparency while executing development works.
He said people should be made aware of the schemes and development works being executed in their areas.
The minister asked the officers to immediately formulate current year's work plan so that development activity is initiated at the earliest. He suggested separate habitation clusters for backward and poor people at district headquarters. Bureau Report
