DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, who was taken into custody at 1.45 am by police on Saturday morning, said police woke him up and informed him about the arrest. "There was no summons and charges against me. I was asleep when police woke me up and informed that I was under arrest," he said.
He said the police had manhandled him and his shirt was torn, when they took him into custody.
The family members of the 77-year-old Karunanidhi, including his wife Dayalu and daughter Selvi, were also taken to the police station, DMK sources said. Bureau Report
