Kathmandu, Mar 10: At least four security personnel were killed and seven others injured in an ambush by the Maoist rebels in western Nepal last night. Three security men including two policemen and a soldier were killed on the spot when their vehicle was ambushed by Maoists in Mohariya in Nepal`s Kaski district, 190 km west of Kathmandu according to local security officials.
Another policeman died on the way to hospital in Pokhara. The rest of the seven injured are being injured at the same hospital.
The Maoists have called a two-week bandh in the Gandak region around the Kaligandaki areas which covers three zones of western Nepal.
Vehicles were obstructed in various parts of western Nepal yesterday due to the bandh.
In other incidents, at least three Maoists were gunned down by security forces across the country in the latest security operations, Defence Ministry officials said.
One rebel each was killed in the Lisankhu Ghyang area of the Sindhupalchowk and Sarlahi districts yesterday, officials said.
Another Maoist rebel was killed by the local people in the Gadhal area of the Bara district in southern Terai when a group of rebels killed a Nepali congress worker in the same village. Bureau Report
