Taipei, July 18: An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted north Taiwan today, seismologists said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The tremor struck at 10:41 AM (0811 IST) from an epicentre two km southwest of the coastal suao city in eastern Ilan county, originating from 72.6 km below the earth crust, according to the Seismology Centre. Taiwan, lying near the junction of two tectonic plates, is prone to earthquakes. Bureau Report
