The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to provide security cover to ''important personalities'' and install surveillance cameras at vantage points, besides prohibiting flag and beacons on vehicles which are not entitled to it. After a high level meeting in the backdrop of the attack on Parliament, state home minister T Devender Goud on Saturday said that the government had decided to further beef up security at the state secretariat, assembly and vital civil and defence installations, including the Shar Centre at Sriharikota in Nellore district.
Security would also be enhanced at major pilgrim towns like Tirupati.
Fresh identity cards would be issued to all those working in the secretariat, including ministers and the assembly staff. All MLAs would be issued such cards and visitors would not be allowed entry without passes, he added. Stating that the police officers had suggested removal of flags and beacons from all vehicles, including those of ministers and judges, Goud said such a decision would be taken later.
