London, Feb 12: A terrorist threat that prompted heightened security in London over the last two days is similar in scale to the September 11 attacks, the chairman of the ruling Labour Party said today. "This is about a threat of the nature that massacred thousands of people in New York," Labour Party chairman John Reid said.
Light tanks and hundreds of troops were deployed at Heathrow Airport west of London yesterday, when police warned that Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network might try attacking the British capital.
Asked whether the security measures were excessive, Reid said: "I am not even going to take seriously those people who suggest this is part of some sort of game". Bureau Report
