New Delhi, Feb 28: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) today signed an eight-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to further a bilateral relationship for improving trade and technology flow between India and Pakistan. Under the MoU, CII and KCCI agreed to exchange professional experience relating to services rendered to their respective members facilitating their relationships and providing adequate support for the successful outcome of specific programmes.
Also, CII and KCCI will exchange information about products and industrial processes, which may be available, industrial training, sources of financing, offers and requests for joint ventures and licensing and identification to promote industrial and technological cooperation between both the countries. The MoU also envisages both countries to cooperate in activities for industrial and technological advancement.
KCCI and CII will exchange information on all economic and commercial matters, with regards to Pakistan and India and on specific industrial sectors of both countries and on those requested by either of the signing parties.
KCCI and CII would also support activities such as seminars, conferences by Pakistan and Indian specialists in India and in Pakistan in those industrial sectors agreed upon between KCCI and CII as well as to promote those events through its publicity media. CII and KCCI also agreed to provide full cooperation to each other in the promotion of trade fairs and exhibitions both in Pakistan and in India.
Under the MoU, KCCI and CII agreed for a mutual exchange of executives for a temporary internship for a maximum period of 6 months in each other's organisation, the objective being to facilitate greater promotion.
The MoU was signed by S. Sen, deputy director general of the CII and Muhammad Nazir Ali, secretary, KCCI during the visit of a 35 member high-level industry delegation from Pakistan led by Siraj Kassam Teli, president of KCCI.
The delegation from Pakistan comprised industry leaders from sectors like textiles, auto components, machine tools and pharmaceuticals. Teli, speaking on behalf of the KCCI delegation, said that there is a need for higher investments from both sides into each other's markets to bring the two countries closer to each other. This will also further the steps already taken by the government to build better linkages between the two sides.
The Pakistani delegation felt that a greater cooperation between the two sides at the SAARC platform will also help enlarge the existing market in South Asia.
The visiting delegation members were keen on knowing investment procedures and rules in India and look at possible tie-ups with Indian firms.
