Mumbai, Sept 18: In an effort to generate more employment opportunities, Maharashtra cabinet today decided to amend the Contract Labour Act and allowed its application in the special economic zone.
The cabinet decided to amend the Contract Labour (Regulation and Eradication) act terming jobs in canteen, gardening, cleaning, security, courier service, loading and unloading of finished products as intermittent and casual, an official release said here.
Similarly to mark the birth centenary year of Padmashri Dadasaheb Gaikwad, the cabinet today decided to institute an award named after the social worker.
An individual and an institution working for landless labourers, dalits and destitute would get a cash award of Rs 21,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively from this October 15, the birth anniversary of Gaikwad.
Henceforth, these proposals would not be forwarded to the government for consideration and necessary amendment would be carried out in the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, it added.
