Kathmandu, July 22: At least three Maoists, including two women rebels, were killed in the latest encounters with security forces in Nepal, the defence ministry said today. The three rebels were killed during search operations in Kuwakot area of Syangja district, the ministry said adding that troops also recovered arms and ammunitions from the spot.
Five guns were also recovered during a search operation in Kailali district.
Security forces during investigations seized Rs 5.6 million from bureau secretary of the Maoist organization in Kathmandu, which were collected by looting various banks and raising funds. The money was also used to fund the rebels, it said.
Meanwhile, three persons were killed in floods and house collapse following heavy rains in Nepal even as the downpour disrupted road and rail communications in various districts.
One person died when Kalimati river flooded the Bafal area in outskirts of Kathmandu, while two women died when their house collapsed following heavy rains in Nishika village of Karve district, police sources said.
In Jaleshwor district, some 3,000 people were displaced as many houses were flooded and two dozen village development committees submegered by floods, sources said adding that most of the wards were also sumbmerged in Mahottari municipality.
