Kolkata, Oct 22: The CPI today ruled out forging any state-level pre-poll alliance with Congress and other secular and democratic parties for the assembly polls in five states, but said it might enter into local seat adjustments with them to defeat the BJP.
CPI general secretary A B Bardhan told newsmen after a
three-day national executive meeting here that his party
reviewed preparations for the assembly polls in Madhya
Pradesh, Chattishgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Mizoram and
decided to ensure the victory of secular party candidates
where CPI and other left parties were not contesting.
"The party might enter into local seat adjustment with other secular democratic parties, but will not forge state-level alliances," he said explaining electoral strategy for the upcoming polls.
Bardhan said the national executive which also deliberated on CPI's strategy for the next Lok Sabha elections felt that the results of assembly polls would have a bearing on the future course of political developments leading to the parliamentary polls.
"Our effort will be to defeat BJP and its allies and remove them from power at the Centre."
Bardhan said besides ensuring success of the candidates belonging to left front in West Bengal and Tripura and the Left Democratic Front in Kerala, "The party will adopt tactics which will bring the left, democratic and secular forces together in other states based on specific realities so that BJP is defeated and a maximum number of left and secular candidates win."
