The recruitment to the posts of Assistant Commandants in the BSF, CRPF, ITBP and Special Security Bureau (SSB) would now be conducted by the UPSC through a combined examination for para-military forces, the Union Cabinet decided on Monday.
The selection by a specialised agency like UPSC would enhance the respect of the forces and credibility of the recruitment process, parliamentary affairs minister Pramod
Mahajan told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
He said direct recruitment to the posts of assistant commandants is presently made through a special selection board and the process consumes a lot of time of directors general and resources of the central para-military forces.
