New Delhi, Dec 07: Oman has invited the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the apex body of CAS, to develop accounting profession in that country. "Insitute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) can collaborate with Omani authorities in furthering the training and professional development of Omani youth," the country's minister in charge and president of state audit institution Sayyid Abdulla bin Hamad al Busiady was quoted as saying in a ICAI statement.

He was speaking at a two-day ICAI seminar on 'meeting the challenges', which concluded in Oman on Saturday.

Acknowledging the quality of Indian professionals, as has been recognised by the boom in BPO, Busiady said the Indian Chartered Accountants were present in large numbers in Oman and was "rendering a great service to the Oman economy".

ICAI president R Bupathy extended the assistance for the setting up of an accounting body in Oman for imparting the education and training to Omani people and technical support in other areas.
Of the 4,000 professionals of the institute abroad, as many as 400 chartered accountants were placed in the sultanate of Oman.
