New Delhi, Aug 08: Congress today gave a muted reaction to the Supreme Court order banning strike by government employees stating that it was still studying the judgement but felt people must have avenues for expressing their problems. "Also there should be a line drawn where public interest should not be harmed," Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi told reporters here.
He said that the party would not like to comment on the apex court order as it was the highest judicial body.
Stating that the party was still studying the judgement, he said it would give suggestions after going through it.
He, however, felt that parliament has a right to debate on court judgements. "Though normally it is not done, in exceptional cases a judgement can be debated," he said.
Chaturvedi stated that Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Shivraj Patil raised the matter in the house and suggested that the verdict could be reconsidered and there were precedents.
Asked if the party favoured a debate in parliament on the verdict, he said it would be decided after making a detailed study of the judgement.
