New Delhi: Aamir Khan joined the chorus of filmmakers, authors and artists against "growing intolerance'' in the country by saying that he has been "alarmed" by a number of incidences.

His wife, Kiran Rao, is apparently so worried that she even suggested that they should leave the country.


Aamir's statement on the "rising intolerance" in the country has triggered fresh controversy.

''As an individual, as part of this country as a citizen, we read in the papers what is happening, we see it on the news and certainly, I have been alarmed. I can't deny. I have been alarmed by a number of incidents," Aamir said while speaking here at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards.


A few, including Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, have lent their support to the actor for voicing his opinion while many others have slammed him for the same.

Aamir's colleagues - Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal, Ashok Pandit and Ram Gopal Varma have slammed the actor for making such a statement.


While filmmaker Sanjay Gupta and music director Vishal Dadlani have extended support to the actor for voicing his opinion.
