Kolkata, Nov 22: Zee Turner, the distribution arm of Zee Telefilms and Turner group of channels, on Friday switched off its bouquet of channels from the metropolis' largest multi-service provider RPG Netcom after the latter failed to pay huge outstanding dues .
Zee Turner CEO Sunil Khanna said, in a release, that the bouquet had been switched off after RPG failed to keep the financial commitments for the services offered despite repeated talks and continuous dishonouring of cheques.
As a result of the switching off of the Zee Turner package, about 70 per cent of the cable homes in the metropolis and its suburbs were deprived of popular channels Cartoon Network, Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zee English, Zee MGM, Trendz, Zee Music, CNBC and Alpha Bangla. (Should steps be taken so that the consumer doesn’t suffer in the never-ending operator-broadcaster tussle?)
RPG sources said they had not been able to pay Zee Turner's outstandings since the company was to realise a huge amount from its cable operators.
An RPG spokesperson said the company would make inquiries into the situation tomorrow and try to settle the impasse as soon as possible. Bureau Report
