New Delhi, June 30: In a major move to check corruption in defence deals, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) today suggested to the defence ministry to revamp and restructure the organisation of chief vigilance officer and expand the ambit of his set-up. The suggestion was made at a meeting chief vigilance commissioner P Shankar had with defence minister George Fernandes and top officials to jointly review the progress of cases under examination by CVC. Fernandes had in February 2000 directed that all major procurement decisions that have been taken by the ministry, since the presence of agents was banned by the government in 1985-86, should be referred to CVC for thorough investigation.
