New Delhi, Jan 09: Poll preparations in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura where assembly elections are due next month came up for discussion at a high-level meeting at the Election Commission today attended by top civil and police officers from the three north-eastern states. Chief secretary, directors general of police and chief electoral officers from the three states briefed the full Election Commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh.
Besides taking stock of the election preparations, the meeting also reviewed law and order situation, progress in issuance of voters' identity cards and training in use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), EC sources said.
Lyngdoh along with other two election commissioners T S Krishnamurthy and B B Tandon had reviewed the arrangements in Himachal Pradesh yesterday.
While the term of Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh assembly is expiring on March Eight and 11 respectively, that of Nagaland and Tripura would come to an end on March 22. Bureau Report
