Bangalore, Nov 22: India and Mauritius have decided
to jointly tap opportunities in the information and
communication technologies (ICT) sector in eastern and
southern Africa, the Prime Minister of the island nation, Paul
Raymond Berenger, said here today.
The two governments have decided to use the Double
Taxation Avoidance Treaty which Mauritius has with countries
of eastern and southern Africa, particularly Madagaskar and
Mozambique, to 'move together,' he said.
"India and Mauritius can do plenty of things in the ICT sector in that region for mutual benefit", Berenger told reporters on his arrival at India's tech capital on a two-day visit.
Asked if there were fresh investments from India in the ICT sector in Mauritius, he replied "there are plenty of big names coming into Mauritius, including setting up a disaster recovery centre and many other initiatives".
"We have devised a brand new set of incentives to interest investors into Mauritius", he said, adding that the Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty between India and Mauritius was being handled carefully, so that there was no abuse.
