Srinagar, Feb 29: Militants attacked a security force camp in the downtown city with rifle-propelled grenades today, but the missiles exploded short of the target. Militants fired about three rifle grenades towards a security force camp at Rai-Teaing Raniwari around 1045 hours, from an unknown place, official sources said.
However, the grenades missed the intended target and exploded just outside the camp without causing any damage.
This was the first attack on a security force camp in the city after militants made an abortive bid on the life of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed at Beerwah on Friday during a public meeting. One girl was killed and four others were injured in that attack.
Sayeed and his cabinet colleagues had escaped unhurt in the attack.
