Tokyo, Feb 09: Defending champion Lindsay Davenport crushed Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva 6-4 6-1 to win her fourth Pan Pacific Open title yesterday.
The American -- in dominant form at the 1.3 million dollars event -- took just 58 minutes to brush aside Maleeva in a one-sided final, extending her winning streak at the Tokyo tournament to 12 matches since 2001.
Second seed Davenport won her ninth singles title at a tier one tournament -- the top nine WTA tour events second in prestige only to the four grand slams -- to equal Monica Seles and Conchita Martinez in first place among active players.
''It was just one of those weeks when everything seemed to go right,'' said Davenport.
''I've always played really well here. It's quite an honour to win a tournament four times, especially one as prestigious as this.''

Davenport, champion in 1998, 2001 and 2003, earned 189,000 dollars after recording her fourth victory in five Pan Pacific Open finals.

The 27-year-old Californian lost in the final to Japan's Kimiko Date on her first visit in 1995. She missed the tournament in 2002 after undergoing knee surgery.
