Nalanda police came close to busting Ranjit`s gang last year
Biharsharif, Nov 27: The Nalanda police had come very close to busting the nation-wide leaked question paper racket with the arrest last year of seven persons including Harishankar Chaudhury, a close associate of alleged kingpin Ranjit Singh, in connection with the leakage of SBI Probationary Officers Test.

The Nalanda police had arrested Chaudhury and six others
from a hotel in Biharsharif, three of whom were caught
memorising the answers of the leaked questions in a closed
room on July 21, 2002, Superintendent of Police Amit Lodha
said today.
An FIR had been lodged with Laheri police station in this connection.
During interrogation, Chaudhary, a native of Begusarai who was arrested with Ranjit along earlier this week while allegedly leaking CAT papers, had revealed that they had planned to realise Rs five lakh from each aspirant after they cleared the test, Lodha said.
Chaudhary had confessed that he had procured the question papers from an employee of a printing press in Mumbai.
The Nalanda police later contacted their counterparts in Mumbai to get failed to respond, Lodha claimed.
The SP said because of non-cooperation of the Mumbai police, the employee of the printing press could not be arrested and subsequently Chaudhary and others were also released on bail and the investigation collapsed.
