Lucknow, Aug 08: Terming media reports of income tax raids on residences of her parents and relatives at Noida and other places as "incorrect and baseless", Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today threatened the owner of a Hindi newspaper and news channel with stern action if a contradiction was not carried within a specific time-frame.
Speaking at a press conference at her official residence, Mayawati expressed anguish at what she termed a political conspiracy to tarnish her image, and warned of strict action against the owner of the concerned newspaper if the contradiction was not carried within a specific time frame.
Earlier, a Hindi daily had claimed that income tax teams conducted a series of raids at the residence of the Chief Minister's parents and relatives at Noida and other places and that a huge amount of cash and other articles were seized during the raids. Reacting to the report, the Chief Minister said that she had spoken to her parents and other relatives and they had denied that any raid was conducted.
Mayawati, however, replied in the negative when asked whether she had spoken to the it officials to confirm the report.
I have left this to you (media)', she quipped.
