The Uttar Pradesh government has made elaborate security arrangements in the state, particularly in Ayodhya in view of the ninth anniversary of the Ayodhya demolition on Thursday. Two additional companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been rushed to Ayodhya along with ten companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) to maintain law and order in Faizabad.
State Director General of Police R.K. Pandit told reporters that twelve companies of security forces, apart from six additional SPs, twelve DSPs and 60 sub-inspectors have been deployed to upgrade the security of the disputed structure. Despite manpower shortage, 98 per cent of the sanctioned security strength is deployed at the site,'' the DGP said.
Claiming that on Thursday was like a Vishesh Suraksha Divas' or a special arrangement day for the state police, the DGP said security in all the 'sensitive' areas have been stepped up to thwart any attempt to create mischief. The state administration has already reinforced the barricades around the structure, the police chief said.
According to Pandit, a new and enhanced security system around the site, which the state police was preparing along with representatives from the Centre, would come into force by next month.
