According to Economic Times, the actress' name made it to the shortlist of seven candidates being considered as part time board members. The list which also includes the likes of Anup Jalota, Ashok Tandon and Minhaz Merchant is yet to be approved by the Vice President.

The report also says that four of the names will be selected and announced during a meeting with the I&B secretary and Chairman of Press Council.

The ET report quoted a government as saying, “ The government is looking at changing the look and feel of Doordarshan completely in the next few months and it is important we have someone accomplished and from the mainstream entertainment industry to revamp the content in Doordarshan. Hence Kajol was considered."

Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley has been on a mission to revamp the working of Vividh Bharti and Doordarshan since his appointment in November 2014. The minister has been keen on bringing up the viewership of the channels as with the advent of cable TV it has been steadily declining.

The move to involve celebrities in the process will certainly have a positive impact on the TRPs.
